Towards Safer Drug Treatment
and Enhanced Patient Empowerment

Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas

The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) was founded in 1983. It is one of the largest research centers in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research institution worldwide. Two of FORTH’s laboratories participate in SafePolyMed: CBML form the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) and and Medlab from the Institute of Biomedical research (BRI).

The mission of the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory (CBML) is to develop novel ICT technologies, including AI-based predictive models and tools, in the wider context of personalized, predictive and preventive medicine aiming and the application of the state-of-the-art computational methods on biological problems with the intent to discover new biomedical knowledge, develop novel tools and support their translation to the clinical context.

The Unit of Medical Technology and Intelligent Information Systems is a highly innovative and self-contained research unit that resides at the Dept. of Material Science & Engineering of the University of Ioannina. The unit is strongly activated in the fields of Biomedical Engineering and development of Intelligent Information systems. It has an internationally acknowledged excellence in conducting high quality scientific research and developing innovative Information Technology (IT) applications, products and services.

Role within SafePolyMed

FORTH is a key technical contributor to SafePolyMed. It will lead efforts to establish the project's federated computational infrastructure and steer the standards-based data harmonization and integration tasks. FORTH will also develope state-of-art predictive models and tools for exploring associations between genetic variation, medication use trajectories, and treatment outcomes.
