Towards Safer Drug Treatment
and Enhanced Patient Empowerment

Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg

Heidelberg University Hospital is one of the largest and most renowned medical centres in Germany. Every year, around 85,600 patients receive inpatient and day-care treatment in its specialised clinics and more than 1,163,000 patients receive outpatient treatment. Our patients come from the Rhine-Neckar region, Baden-Württemberg, other federal states and abroad. The Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Heidelberg University Hospital was founded in 1968 as one of the first clinical pharmacology departments in Europe. Today, the Department’s main areas of activity have both deepened and diversified with foci on early clinical trials, medication safety / clinical pharmacy, electronic decision support and ultrasensitive drug analysis.

Role within SafePolyMed

In SafePolyMed, Heidelberg is one of the sites recruiting patients for the EmpaSafe study, thereby mainly collaborating with community pharmacies.
